Doing a Doctorate in Digital Humanities
Prequisites
Digital Humanities is a doctoral subject of the Faculty of Arts and Department of Theology.
For a PhD in this subject, the topic of the dissertation must be related to formal analysis or technology studies. The work is design-based in its goal of knowledge; for example, models, methods, and algorithms or architectures of artifacts are developed and evaluated using criteria appropriate to the problem.
Qualifying degree programs include diploma, master’s, or master’s programs in the following areas (not exhaustive):
- Digital Humanities and Social Studies degree programs, such as Digital Humanities, Computing in the Humanities, or Computational Social Sciences
- Studies with a focus on data analytics, such as Data Analytics, Data Science, or Corpus Linguistics
- Informatics including hyphenated computer science, such as Cultural Informatics or Media Informatics

Doing a Doctorate in the Humanities and Social Sciences
Doctoral subjects in the humanities and social sciences are also available for dissertation topics dealing with digitization in relation to various phenomena of the Conditio Humana.
