Fanfiction is literature by fans for fans - creative and without commercial intentions. In recent years, both the figure of the fan and this cultural technique have undergone a remarkable transformation. Success stories such as 50 Shades of Grey and the After series have put fanfiction in the spotlight and underlined its importance for the modern media landscape. But what is actually behind this fascinating genre?
